In a move to foster widespread enthusiasm for the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train (KCJB), the government has announced a three-month grace period, starting from Aug. 18 until October 2023, during which complimentary tickets will be distributed. As part of the soft operation phase, these tickets will be exclusively available to individuals who meet specific criteria.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, while emphasizing the significance of local representation and community involvement, has stated that priority for the free passes will be given to prominent figures and residents living in close proximity to the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train.

Starting from Aug. 1, 2023, individuals will have the opportunity to independently register and secure their chance to experience this remarkable initiative.

“Especially those in immediate proximity and esteemed personalities. The registration process is scheduled to commence in early August,” elucidated Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, as quoted by Liputan6 over the weekend.

Adita Irawati, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation, revealed a diverse range of professions entitled to these complimentary KCJB tickets.

This includes influencers, observers/analysts, communities, and journalists.

Adita emphasized that these professions were thoughtfully selected due to their potential to assist the Indonesia-China High-Speed Rail Corporation (KCIC) in effectively disseminating information about the project to a broader audience.

“Our primary consideration lies with those capable of actively contributing to the public outreach efforts of KCIC, including media acquaintances, influential figures, insightful observers/analysts, and dynamic community representatives,” affirmed Adita.

Furthermore, Adita conveyed that discussions are currently underway among various stakeholders, such as the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, and the KCIC, to explore the possibility of expanding the eligibility criteria for free tickets to the general public.

“The final decision will be the outcome of a collective effort. Given the extensive involvement of stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Transportation, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs, the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, and representatives from KCIC, a unified decision will be reached,” added Adita.

Prior to this announcement, the government had already disclosed its plan to offer complimentary tickets for the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train (KCJB) during the initial three-month soft operation period.

This promotional period, aimed at attracting commuters, will be in effect from Aug. 18 to October 2023.
